Weekend Getaway Guide – The Poconos

Hello Loves,

Hope everyone is having a fabulous start to their week. This past weekend my boyfriend Americo and I celebrated his birthday at the Poconos near Lake Harmony, PA. It was our first weekend getaway trip together and I planned all of the activities for us to do over there. The Poconos is a very large area so I had to do my research to see where exactly we wanted to stay depending on the activities we were doing.

I wanted to pick a place where we were close to outdoor activities but also to some entertainment spots. I looked at hotels over and over again and all of them were way out of my budget. I ended up finding an Air bib that was close to a couple of the resorts, dining spots, and some outdoor fun. I looked at the reviews and the person was a super-host and had all amazing reviews so I ended up booking it for the weekend.

I made a schedule of all the things we should do from Friday through Sunday that way we weren’t searching for things to do and we could just do what was planned from the schedule that I made.  I ended up a bunch of things that the both of us would enjoy. I looked up vineyards, breweries, kayaking, dining spots, live music, etc including the distance from our Air bnb. With weeks of researching, see the list below of what I came up for his birthday trip.

This is what our weekend schedule looked like:

Friday Afternoon:
Leave my house by 11AM
Barley Creek Brewery Private Tour & Tasting – 1:30pm (23 min drive from air bnb)
Check into Air Bnb by (3:30-4pm)
Friday Night:
Dinner at Nick’s Lake House (Outside bar, lake view) (2 min drive from air bnb)
Shenanigans bar for drinks and dancing (2 min drive from air bnb)

Saturday Morning:
Breakfast – Piggy’s Restaurant (2 min drive from air bnb)
Head To Yeti Water Sports – Kayaking (7 min drive from air bnb)
Mid Afternoon:
Mount Airy Day Pool – $15 pool pass (30 min drive from air bnb)
Saturday Night:
Dinner & Live Music – Boulder View Tavern (2 min drive from air bnb)

Sunday Morning: Wake up at 9am!
Boulder View Tavern – Champagne Brunch 10AM (3 min drive from air bnb)
Sunday Afternoon:
Mountain View Vineyard Winery & Brewery – Tastings (30 min drive from air bnb)

On Friday, we arrived at Barley Creek Brewery just in time for our tour. The guy gave us a little tour about the history of the brewery and how they make their beers, it was really interesting to see how all of that works. After the tour, we sat down had some appetizers and sampled 4 flight of beers and even took a souvenir glass to take home. The brewery was about a 30 min drive to the air bnb, so afterwards we got settled in, it was a perfect spot and felt like we were at home. Unfortunately, it was raining all day Friday so we couldn’t enjoy sitting outside having dinner by the lake so we just ate inside instead. I surprised Americo by telling one of the waiters to bring him a cake. He didn’t expect it at all, it was a cute little surprise. After we ate, we drove to Shenanigans , a bar and dance spot which was literally up the hill from the restaurant. We got a few drinks, listened to karaoke, played darts, and headed back to the air bnb.

Saturday was a long day for us as we did so many fun activities. We woke up early, and ate breakfast at Piggy’s Restaurant. We both had omelets with home fries and shared one of their specials, french toast and blueberry pancakes (wild berries from Maine). Yeti water sports was literally a 2 min drive, so we headed over there for kayaking. It was my first time, so I was pretty nervous at first, but after a good 5 minutes trying to paddle, I got in the hang of it. It’s definitely a good workout on you arms, it was so fun! We went kayaking for about an hour or so then drove 30 minutes south to the Mount Airy Casino to use the pool for the day. The pool was so beautiful and big and we laid out with some drinks and swam around. We ended our night with dinner at Boulder View Tavern then headed back to watch a movie on Netflix and finish the rest of our packing.

On Sunday, we woke up earlier to clean the air bnb up, packed the rest of our things, and went to Boulder View Tavern for their special buffet brunch. We had a bunch of eggs, home fries, fruit, Danish sweets, and french toast. We ended our trip by going to Mountainview vineyard which is a winery, brewery, and distillery, all in one. It was so perfect, it was something Americo and I could both enjoy. We both had 5 tastings of wine, and he ended up trying 5 distillery shots of flavored vodka while I was slurping on my wine slushy. The place was so beautiful, there were lots of land to walk around and take photos, and they were even featured in the knot.

Overall, we had the best time, I’m so glad he enjoyed his birthday weekend. The schedule I made was perfect since we did everything on the list, and it was wonderful just to spend time with one another. We lucked out on the rain, so we got lucky with the things that were mentioned in the schedule. The food near Lake Harmony wasn’t to our liking, but the people were very friendly, the area was so peaceful, and the scenery was just beautiful.
