Last Friday I attended a storytellers dinner co-hosted by Tiffany Keegan of @breakfastatetiffany and Chef Dan Sabia in Yorktown, New York. All of the Westchester influencers who attended were introduced to Chef Dan and his pop up dinner business called Wood Fire Food. (Instagram: @wood_fire_food). This storyteller dinner was an opportunity for all of us to get together and for Chef Dan to talk more about his food business. His goal is to create long lasting memories through great conversation and delicious food.
When Tiffany reached out to me about attending the outdoor dinner she didn’t give too much detail about the event so I figured it was a surprise and we’d know more when we arrive there.
THE ARRIVAL
When I arrived to the address to where the outdoor dinner was taken place, I found all of the girls in the backyard and Tiffany introduced all of us to Chef Dan and was immediately impressed and stunned on how everything was set up. There was a huge grill in the middle of the backyard and so much food to be grilled on the stove.
Chef Dan told us that this house was his childhood home when he was a kid and the food he was prepping for us that night was one of the very first meals he created. There was a long wooden table setup so beautifully with wine glasses, utensils, as well as wine and whiskey.
I was worried about getting bitten by mosquitos but luckily Chef Dan had his very own homemade bug spray that had lavender oil in it so all was good haha!
STORYTELLER DINNER & DISCUSSION
I have never experienced an outdoor pop-up collaboration before and seriously was so excited to see what this was all about. The food was ready and displayed on the table so perfectly. Chef Dan gave a speech on how he left the food industry to create his own food business that meant something to him. He wanted to create food dinners like this to show value for people to put their phones away and interact with everyone around the table and start a discussion.
As much as we all love to be on our phones and check our social media every second, it’s nice to cherish what’s in front of you and have a real conversation with whom is sitting by you.
I was sitting next to Conner McGinn at the table and got to know him a bit more. He creates custom handmade dinnerware for both restaurants and the home out of his studio in Tarrytown, New York.
