Hi All!
Since travel is restricted due to the pandemic I wanted to go on a weekend getaway to escape from reality and spend as much time enjoying the last bits of summer being on the beach somewhere. I went to Block Island in Rhode Island, my first time being there which was exciting and a relaxing weekend for sure! The hotels on the Island were pretty expensive especially this time of the year so we decided to do a day trip on the island and then spend the other days in upstate CT. Keep on reading to see how I spent my weekend getaway.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Friday Afternoon – The Pavilion, Old Lyme, CT
Spent the day at The Pavilion in Old Lyme, CT! It was my first time there and it’s pretty much a bar in the middle of the beach, with a restaurant next door, and they also have live music which is so fun! We ended up eating right next door at Kokomo’s Restaurant & Beach Bar, and there are tables outside right on the sandy beach area which was perfect!
Checked into hotel – Hampton Inn, Mystic, CT (stayed for two nights)
We stayed at the Hampton Inn hotel in Mystic, CT, which worked perfectly because it was close to a ton of restaurants, plus it was only a 7 min ride to the ferry which was a win-win situation.
Friday Evening – Mohegan Sun
We went to Mohegan Sun for dinner and drinks and kept it a low-key night since we were getting up super early the next day to get on the ferry to Block Island. We ate at an Italian restaurant called BALLO, and the food was delicious and super nice inside, definitely recommend!
ALL Day Saturday – Block Island, RI
We took an 8:30 am ferry ride and as we got on, everyone was wearing masks the entire time until we got off. We arrived at the Island at 10 am which allowed us to walk around the island before going to the beach for sun and drinks.
Some of the places we stopped were:
- Payne’s Killer Donuts (so delish and so fresh)!
- Block Island Cookie Company for some chocolate chip cookies
- 1661 Farm and gardens to check out the farm animals, which was cute to visit.
- Lots of walking around and checking out boutiques and shops.
- Ballard’s Beach Resort for sun and pineapple drinks
Block Island was a blast and was totally doable for exploring it for the day. We did lots of walking, checked out the animal farm, ate some sweet treats, and shopping.
We spent most of the afternoon at Ballard’s which was probably the highlight of my trip! I felt like I stepped into a tropical island, there were lounge chairs and umbrellas to rent from, the sand was hot against your toes, there were tiki bars in every section and the best part was choosing from so many cocktails and you get to sip them on pineapples….talk about IG worthy! There were also restaurants in every direction so you really couldn’t go wrong in where you wanted to dine.
We took the 8:30pm ferry back to our hotel and got back around 10:30-11pm and passed out…it was a long day!
Sunday – Misquamicut Beach, RI
We spent the last day at Misquamicut beach and got there at around 9:30 am so we can beat the crowd and get a good space on the beach. We brought snacks and drinks and laid out till about mid-afternoon then headed back home!
It was a jam-packed weekend for sure and a really fun one. I can’t wait to go back to Ballards’ Beach!
Have you been to Block Island? What’s some of your favorite spots there?
